Of course 'prince' Charles wants the "people" to give up their cars because cars give freedom and independence to the common people.
Cars are the great democratisers that have lead us away from serfdom. They are more essential to our liberty than socialist transport systems.
This prince strikes me as a typically hypocritical aristocrat who resents the fact that the workers (a strange concept to his type) want the same privileges and luxuries as those born into wealth - yet there is no difference between a prince and the winner of the lottery, both are only blessed by chance not by talent.
Blessings for a republic - soon!

PS: Rather than preaching he could try to set an example by selling all his cars for charity and riding a bike to work - three novelties for him to consider!

To the person who said elsewhere:
"[Charles has] always been a forward thinker. Many of the things he was mocked for twenty years ago have gone totally mainstream now (his organic farming)..."
Get real - organic farming is not mainstream, it is still very much a over-priced niche market. (And meditation was a daily ritual for most long before Charles was born - we just used to call it prayer - and it didn't do much good then either.)
As for a work/life balance, that is easy to achieve on his sort of money - as for public housing, true it is awful but only because so many of the landed gentry (like Charles) object to anything being built near them so what is built is squashed into old brown-field sites far removed from work and services.
We need new towns, expanded villages, faster roads, balanced farming and more genetically modified food (like Golden Rice which could save millions of lives).
